Child Shot Multiples Times During Gang Related Shooting
Last night an adult in his 20s and a 5 year old child were shot in Orange Avenue, Long Beach. The child, a 5 year old playing in his yard is believed to be an innocent bystander in a gang-related shooting targeted at the adult. The shooting took place just before 7:00 p.m. When police arrived at the scene the boy, who was shot in the stomach was not moving.
Both the adult male and the child were riding bicycles when the shooting happened. Police say that the boy was hit multiple times. According to police reports the suspects were heading southbound on Orange when they opened fire on the adult, the bullets went toward the house where the child was playing in front of.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital, are currently in stable condition and expected to survive. The suspects fled south through Orange Avenue in what has only been describe as a light colored vehicle.
“At this point it looks like the male adult was definitely the intended target, it’s just tragic that the child is playing in front of their house and gets struck by a stray bullet.” Said Long Beach Police Sergeant Aaron Eaton.
Currently a search is underway for the gunman, Investigators have found no surveillance footage, but they ask that anyone with information should contact the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7260
